GREETINGS FROM THE PRESIDENT

The Policy Studies Organization includes more than 3600 universities and institutions in its membership as well as individuals in more than 93 countries. From its headquarters in an historic house near Dupont Circle in Washington, once the home of the families of President James Garfield and the labor leader Samuel Gompers, the society organizes conferences, seminars, the publication of journals and books, and an increasing Internet presence. Continue...

The Policy Studies Organization helped establish in Washington and continues a cordial friendship with the Roosevelt Institution , a policy discussion and research society on more than 140 university campuses which involves students in learning about major public policy issues.

Starting in 2008, the Policy Studies Organization will sponsor a limited number of interns in Washington DC, working with our officers in developing new and expanded programs. Please contact David Merchant for more information.

PSO AND IMPORTANT VALUES

PSO is committed to social responsiblity, believing that all organizations should contribute positively to the environment. Publications are printed on recycled paper by union labor, and products are purchased from concerns whose employment practices are progressive. We support diversity, encourage feedback from all those with whom we deal, and cooperate with WileyBlackwell and other partners to donate or provide publications at much reduced cost to developing countries. More than 600 institutions in 60 developing countries receive our publications free of charge.

INCREASED PSO MEMBERSHIP BENEFITS: JOIN   OR RENEW NOW!

In 2008, subscribers to PSO publications will receive six issues of Politics & Policy , up from the previous four, and six issues of Policy Studies Journal , including a special year end double issue that will be a yearbook of policy research and studies around the world. They already receive six issues a year of the Review of Policy Research . That means eighteen issues at the same price! In 2009, subscribers will also receive Asian Politics & Policy . In 2010, in cooperation with Wiley-Blackwell, we will be adding still two more journals, the Digest of Middle East Studies and Latin American Politics & Policies.

Members of PSO have been able to use the offices in Washington as a base for their visits, and many PSO members have participated in PSO panels and receptions at meetings of the American Political Science Association, Midwest Political Science Association, Southern Political Science Association, and the American Association for the Advancement of Science.

Members also have had the satisfaction of knowing that they are helping build the PSO endowments with APSA, SPSA and MPSA that bring students and scholars to the annual meetings of those organizations.

Your membership now permits online access to the journals through Synergy , a service that includes back issues of all PSO journals. Your membership also offers substantial discounts for the PSO books published by Lexington Books. And more good things are coming. So the message is to join or renew now! This is made by simply going to the Wiley-Blackwell renewal page .

Books for PSO headquarters

Those of you who have visited since the Policy Studies Organization moved to Washington know that 1527 New Hampshire Avenue is a large place -- and if you have books, political memorabilia, or even antiques! their gift to the headquarters would be permanently acknowledged on the website and would be tax deductible. We have lots of empty shelves, so if you are crowded, let us help! A note to our executive director, David Merchant , will certainly elicit a prompt reply.

We want to publish you!

If you want to publish in the PSO journals or book series, take a look at the specific journals and our books so you have an idea of what the editors want and contact them directly. If you have a contribution that you would like on the PSO web pages, send it for examination to the web page editor at dgutierrezs@ipsonet.org
