POVERTY & PUBLIC POLICY

Poverty is worldwide, but empirical studies of poverty, income distribution, and programs aiding poor and low-income citizens are more common in America, Canada, Australia, and the major industrial nations of Europe. On the other hand, American and Canadian studies of poverty, income issues and social welfare programs to an extent have been insular in scope.

This then is a global journal. The best empirical studies of European poverty, income dynamics and social welfare are conducted by scholars associated with the Luxembourg Income Study with which the founding editor has a close relationship. In much of the world, including Mexico, Central America, Latin America, Africa, the Middle East and much of Asia, there are some quality studies of poverty, income and aid programs but little of it becomes integrated into the scholarly literature and that is a goal of this journal.

Poverty & Public Policy will publish quality research on poverty, income distribution, and welfare programs from scholars anywhere on the globe, while encouraging scholars in underrepresented nations to produce research that could be published in a peer-reviewed journal.

The Founding Editor is Professor Max Skidmore from the University of Missouri, who can be contacted at
