Dupont Summit

"The New Administration Tackles Science and Technology. Priorities

for Discovery and Advance."

December 5th, 2008.

The event was held at the

Carnegie Institution for Science
in Washington DC

The Carnegie Institution building is one of the most notable in Washington. The auditorium, one of the rooms we will use, has the famous murals by J. Monroe Hewlett with its heroic figures - astronomers, geographers and explorers typifying the researchers of the institution. Above, in the ceiling, are the unique lighted transparencies of the sun and moon. See www.ciw.edu/visitors/building

The Policy Studies Organization is glad to announce that the upcoming Dupont Summit will be held in Washington D.C. during the first week of December 2008. Its purpose will be to bring academic, government and society leaders, into dialogue about pressing policy issues on science and technology policy which will need to be addressed by the new American Presidency.

The Policy Studies Organization and Wiley-Blackwell publish the Review of Policy Research, in cooperation with Georgetown University and the Science, Environmental and Technology Section of the American Political Science Association. The journal explores the problems and challenges of a society where science and technology issues have left the laboratories as mere subjects of scientific study only, and rather have become pressing matters of concern for policy scholars and makers alike.

The Dupont Summit mirrors the interest of the PSO and its partners in promoting discussion from all sides of the often controversial policy initiatives that will face the President and Congress in2009 and thereafter. Asking the right questions is as important as finding answers. Our aim will be to try to establish the possible priorities for the agenda of a new Presidential administration taking place.

The 2008 Dupont Summit dealt with the following themes

  • Technology & Innovation
  • Information & Telecommunications
  • Environment & Climate Change
  • Energy
  • Health

  • Genetics & Stem Cells
  • Water & Natural Resources
