A special issue of Sexuality, Gender & Policy examining how sexual and gender diversity is conceptualized, institutionalized, and experienced within universities and research centres across different cultural and geographical contexts.

About the special issue
Equality policies in higher education have expanded beyond gender representation to address sexual orientation, gender identity, disability, race, class, nationality, and other intersecting forms of inequality.
This Special Issue invites research examining the gap between equality-policy design, formal implementation, and lived institutional experience, with particular attention to experiences beyond dominant Western frameworks.
The issue welcomes research from diverse cultural, geographical, and social contexts.

- Gender identity recognition and self-determination policies in universities and research settings
- Inclusion of sexual and gender diversity in curricula and teacher training
- Experiences of LGBTQI+ students, staff, and people with intersecting identities
- Institutional responses to discrimination, harassment, and gender-based violence
